A surface peeling occurs around 0.06 millimeters in the epidermis, the stratum corneum in one. The peeling substances are naturally occurring acids, alpha hydroxy acids. These include glycol, milk, lemon, almond and tartaric acid. Glycolic acid is well suited for light skin peeling treatments.
The acids are used in concentrations of 20 – 70 percent with different pH values used, this increases the water retention capacity of the skin. The stratum corneum is relaxed and before frost formation is the skin is neutralized with sodium bicarbonate. Read the rest of this entry »
